2022 Waffle Ball Game
OEH students challenged the faculty competed in a cut-throat game of wiffle ball at the end of orientation week. It was a great opportunity for everyone to meet each other. (This has sense become an annual event! Way to make a tradition, OEHSAI!)

ISU Visit
In Fall 2022, a group of students took a trip over to Iowa State University. There, they explored the research projects of the Occupational Safety trainees as well as learn about their labs and educational experience. They experienced VR and ergonomic testing of surgical procedures.

We had a wonderful evening bidding farewell to Gabi Ludewig, Larry Robertson, Fred Gerr, and Matt Nonnenmann. Gabi, Larry, and Fred were celebrating retirement while Matt Nonnennmann is off to University of Nebraska.

Elementary School Science Night
OEHSAI partnered with the Epidemiology Student Association to attend a local elementary school's science night! We brought a bubble machine to demonstrate how particles disperse in air. We also had kids do a ruler-drop test to determine how fast their reaction time was.

Manufacturing Tour at Kinze
OEH Students visited Kinze Manufacturing in early spring 2023. There, they were guided by safety professionals in a general industry tour. They saw welding processes, assembly lines, and more.

Coloring Social Hour
We decided to have a small social hour to destress as the semester comes to a close. Students enjoyed a free lunch and watched Zootopia to unwind.

Greenhouse Networking 2023
Faculty and students gathered in Greenhouse Lounge in downtown Iowa City to do some speed networking. Students learned the faculty's best piece of advice and their pathway to teaching here at Iowa.

Earth Day Outreach
OEHSAI partnered with the Health Management and Policy Master Students group to host a booth at a local Earth day event with two local high schools. We had a recycling activity to test students' knowledge of Iowa City's rules on what can or can't be recycled.

Eastern Iowa Science and Engineering Fair 2023
OEH students took part in the Eastern Iowa Science and Engineering Fair 2023 as judges for a special award focused on the Occupational & Environmental fields. They awarded 7 total prizes to the projects that were the best of the Occupational & Environmental topics. Some honorable mentions include a project investigating welding fumes in their family's shop, a comparison of biodegradable technologies for filtering out toxins in water, and discovering how bees uptake glyphosate.

Annual OEH Conference
The 7th Annual Occupational Health & Safety Student Research Conference took place on Friday, April 28. This event provided an opportunity for students, faculty, and collaborators across campus and the region to learn about innovative occupational health and safety research and practice being conducted by students and gave students an opportunity to showcase their involvement in this important field.

Construction Work Tour
OEH students took a walking tour around the University of Iowa to better understand safety practices on construction sites. They saw the new wrestling facility as well as an addition to an emergency power storage building. It was interesting to see the differences in construction companies.

End of Year Celebration
The OEH Department gathered together one last time for this academic year. They enjoyed outdoor games and fantastic Mexican food.
